Tackling Violence against Women as a Prerequisite for Sustainable Development – CSW 60

The Equal Futures Open Forum side-event at the sixtieth session of the UN Commission on the Status of Women (CSW60) showcased Equal Futures members’ and partners’ successful advancements in violence prevention and changing discriminatory social norms, improvements in responding to survivors of gender-based violence, as well as action resulting in positive impact toward sustainable development. The event was chaired by Croatian Assistant Minister of Foreign and European Affairs, Jasna Ognjanovac, as Croatia is the present chair of the initiative, and the U.S. Ambassador-at-Large for Global Women’s Issues, Catherine Russell. The panelists were UN Special Rapporteur on Violence against Women, its Causes and Consequences, Dubravka Šimonović; Danish Minister for Children, Education and Gender Ellen Trane Nørby; Mexico’s National Commissioner for Prevention and Eradication of Violence against Women Alejandra Negrete Morayta; EU European External Action Service Principal Advisor on Gender Mara Marinaki and the UN Women Manager of Empower Women program Anna Falth.
